Politically Incorrect Inanna

1. If you tell me you won't let your kids watch or read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings and I ask you why, DO NOT begin your sentence with, "Well, our pastor said..." or "Our church..." I don't give a shit what your pastor or your church says or does. I expect you to make an informed decision instead of following along with their spoon-fed idealogies. If you can't watch the movies or read the books like an informed, intelligent adult you will be dismissed. 2. If you have to quantify someone's qualities by saying, "He's a good Christian man," then I probably don't want to meet him. I wonder if he didn't show up and sing in the choir every Sunday yet did the same good works as before if he would still be a "good" man? Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than wearing wool makes you a sheep. And always beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing. I'm sure David Koresh thought he was a good Christian man too. 3. My son will not be in the Boy Scouts if I can help it. In my humble opinion, all den mothers should be lesbians, then there will be no one who can corrupt our delicate male youth. 4. A child molestor is never cured. The only thing the classes they take teach them is how to recognize their "abuse triggers" and "at-risk age group." They will do it again if given the right opportunity and set of circumstances. Good advice from.... a child molestor (not me!). If you can't believe the perp who can you believe? 5. I wanted to see "The Passion of the Christ" but changed my mind. I now have no desire to ever see it. 6. I'm disgusted by the apathy of the world to what is going on in Sudan. I mean, who cares right? They don't have anything we need. Who cares that millions of people are displaced, their homes burned, their men murdered, their women raped? I mean, why piss off more Muslims? 7. If the American Revolutionary War were to happen today, Minutemen would be considered terrorists. The signers of the Declaration of Independence would be on playing cards. George Washington would be hunted like Osama bin Laden. 8. What the hell is in Chechnya that Putin won't just give it up? I do not agree with the tactics of the Chechan rebels... but as my boss says, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. See #7. 9. If anyone has a right to be pissed off about Harry Potter its we Wiccans. Come on now, male witches are not called wizards, they're called... witches!!! And the spell to open a locked door is not alohamora its a key!!! :o) 10. Michael will be surprised with his original Inanna-fanna-beadana.

I try to respect everyones religious beliefs, but to *DISCOURAGE* reading in children because a book is about a wizard, well, that is definitely deserving of a beatdown.

Wow Inanna! Ok. You put it out there, so here I go.

#1 - I don't care whether people read them or not. I love them and my kids can read them. Whatever other partents want to do is their business as long as they don't go beating up my child. LOTR is a different story. Anyone who doesn't see them might as well bury themselves.

#2 - I sniggeringly agree. Usually that means he is really ugly and desperate and is willing to turn to God to get him laid. Once he gets laid, he usually just becomes a regular old man.

    #3 - I have no opinion.

#4 - You are right, you can't take the chance.

#5 - That's fine, as long as you won't pass judgement on it without seeing it. :-)

#6 - Couldn't agree more. Where is Western Europe? Powell is the only one to call it what it is. Genocide.

#7 - Could not possibly disagree more. Look at the motives. Just what kind of freedom are the people that we are referring to as terrorists today fighting for? The freedom to turn the world body into an Islamic state? The freedom to kill all "Jews" and "infidels"? And the tactics! As far as I am aware, the minutemen fought the British army, not schoolchildren and innocent civilians. The goal of the minutemen wasn't to terrorize British children into accepting their religion. And George Washington WAS hunted like Osama bin Laden. By the British. Who weren't that big on individual freedom (at that time).

#8 - The Chechans had my sympathy until they adopted the tactics of terrorists instead of freedom fighters. There is most definitely a difference. Freedom fighters do not murder children to get their way. But notice how their tactics were military until the psychotic death-cult strain of Islam got into the picture? But I believe that the Chechans have just cause to want to separate from Russia. As does Taiwan from China. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Putin wants their oil.

#9 - I thought male witches were called warlocks? I always wondered why Rowling didn't use that term.

Good post, and I would say don't be offended by anything I've said, but somehow, I don't think you would be.

Gooch - I don’t mind if peeps don’t want their kids to read certain material. I just want them to read the books or see the movies themselves and then form an opinion instead of spouting religious rhetoric.

Michael - I thought you meant the book but now I realize you mean the movie... for a minute there I was like, “bro... the rest of us are waiting on HP6..” :o) Your Inannabannafofanna will not disappoint... pfft! As if.

Z - Hey, that’s why I like you. Disagree all you want, I still love ya!!! And I think that the term Warlock is considered to mean one who practices black magic. Not sure, but just my two cents or is that 1 ½?

I agree with both you and Zelda! How's that for confusing?
If the Revolutionary War were to happen today, that is probably exactly the way the media would portray it. But it's not the same thing. The US was fighting for it's independence, not trying to kill Brits.

If we went into Sudan, how do you think that one would play out?

I decided that I never needed to see the passion of the christ. I didn't think that I really needed to know any more about what Mel Gibson thought about Christ's death. Plus, I heard there wasn't much about the resurrection in it. and wasn't that the whole point????

So, do you also call female witches who practice black magic warlocks? Just curious.

Brilliant and thought provoking. I did, however, see the Passion of the Christ, and it was an excellent movie. MOVIE. Story telling. That's it. Gory - exceedingly so - but moving and well presented. Mel Gibson can go screw himself... but it was a well made movie.

Found you from Seeker's new circle of friends thingy.

I agree with you on many points. I work in a church and I always say that half the attending members of the congregation go to church not because they are especially religious, devout, or prayerful- it is because they want to round out their 'social resumes'. It sounds good to say "I go to church. . .I belong to church xyz." Many of the worst child abusers, spouse abusers, criminals, etc. claim to be devout, church going people.

1 & 2) I do blieve it's parents responsibility to "censor" what their kids get exposed to. What ticks me off is when the parents don't want to do something because "my pastor/church/whatever" said it's satan stuff. I can still vividly recall how my mom burned all my soft toys as a kid because the pastor/church stated it was unbiblical. It becomes a brainwashing where whatever that person on the pulpit says become law. I shudder at the things that have been done "in gods name".

    5) What irritated me about the whole "passion of christ" thing is how local regilious groups latched on to it and claimed what a "spiritual experience" it was.

6,7,8) Wellll, from my side of the world. Years and years ago before South Africa became a republic. The British herded my people into concentration camps. Only the women and the children. It was largely a guerilla war with the British and their red-coats making wonderfull targets in the african bush. Then a bit later, or about the same time there was a huge slaugther of the zulu people. Actually a public holiday until recently. It was called "blood river". People have been killing each other for ages for some reason or another.
A solution? I doubt it. Today we have something called "politics" which just implies one day you shoot at each other and the next day you're invited over to a state dinner. Whatever happened to the UN? They seem to not be that united anymore.

Cattiva - Its useless to think about what would happen because its not going to happen.

Aimee - Ah, thank ya chica.

Bunsen/Bondage Chicken - OY! Well, I wouldn’t see it particularly for the Resurrection or any of that. Have heard it is a well made movie. But yeah, seems that Christ’s death was to show the resurrection... Hmmmmm.

Trashman - But he was a good Christian man right?

Jethro - No, we’re just all considered witches, whether we practice white or black magic. Watch the Wizard of Oz, its all explained there. LOL!!!

Leslie - I did want to see the movie until one of my friend’s went and called me from the lobby halfway through ready to throw up and crying her eyes out. I cannot take the goriness and I trust everyone who says it is.

Willanita - Welcome, welcome. That’s one of the reasons I stopped going to church was because at the tender age of 12 I began to see the hypocrisy and I just ditched it. I know very good people who live by their religion but don’t feel the need to crow about it. They live their lives as an example. And then others that, well, just go to say, “I go.”

Esther - Well... yeah, the whole book burning/record burning etc. is ridiculous. Sorry about your toys. WTF? The last religious experience I had entailed a bottle of tequila. UN – the new dirty word of the 21st Century.

I couldn't agree more about people who can't make up their own minds- they annoy the piss out of me. As for The Passion; I saw it, I hated it. Maybe it's just because I don't understand all of the finer points of Christianity, but to me, it was just an exceedingly violent, gory film about torture. I didn't think it made Jews look bad, so much as it made MEN look bad. All men- the women were the ones who showed strength and compassion... I don't think you're missing a thing.
